Mardi Gras

Best Mardi Gras Decoration Ideas

History of Mardi Gras

The first-ever Mardi Gras happened in the 18th century. Mardi Gras is so fun that the tradition is still an ongoing thing. Mardi Gras is French a french word but a fun fact in English means Fat Tuesday, and it is the season of Carnival celebration. The three official colors for Mardi Gras are purple, green and gold. Every color represents something special like purple represents justice, green represents faith and gold represents power. The three colors were to represent the “king” and were the official colors of Mardi Gras.

Best place to be in for Mardi Gras

New Orleans is the place to be for Mardi Gras season, and the biggest celebrations and parades start the Wednesday before Fat Tuesday. On that Wednesday, the larger parades begin to roll. Before that Wednesday, many parades happen throughout the city. If you do go to New Orleans you need to book a place to stay by December.

Customs

Masking is the biggest tradition during Mardi Gras. The only reason people started to wear masks was that they were tired of society and wanted to escape it and didn’t want to be recognized by anyone. Today, people wear masks to keep it as a tradition and it has a mysterious vibe to it because no one knows who is who. People often wear a mask that matches their outfit.

Dessert

The festive Mardi Gras dessert is King cake which is eaten during the parade but many people start their day eating these delicious desserts. The name of this dessert comes from the story of the three kings and how they brought gifts to baby Jesus. The recipe is a blend of milk, butter, pecan, and a cinnamon roll with purple, green, and gold icing or sugar. Even Though the king cakes are already delicious, sometimes they are also filled with cream or fruit to even make it more awesome.

You can decorate your table with bright colors for a Halloween party or any occasion you would like to celebrate, it will look so nice to have a Mardi Gras table. You can add an emerald green table runner and some beautiful purple flowers, and a lantern centerpiece for the center of the table. Do not forget your Mardi Gras masks, there are different bright colors like purple, gold, baby blue, deep navy blue, and so on. You can also add some jewel-tone stemware, bead necklaces (some of them come with a shot glass). You can match the colour of your bead necklaces with your masks.

DIY Mardi Gras Centerpiece

Would you like to do your own centerpiece? This article will show you how to do it. These are the following materials you will need:

Steps:

  1. Spray the acrylic jewels with the aluminum metallic spray, and then glue them to the Mardi Gras mask around the edge.
  2. Take the bead necklaces and boas and place them in your fishbowl or/and cylinder vases.
  3. You could glue the boa at the top of your cylinder and/or fishbowl
  4. Optional: you can glue the hornets at the top of the cylinder, this will add more colour to your centerpiece.
  5. Glue the mask at the top and inside of the cylinder.
  6. Finally, place some bead necklaces and horns on the table.

You could also decorate your wine bottles and put them as centerpieces on your table. You only need some bead necklaces, acrylic spray, Mardi gras mask on sticks, and of course wine bottles. Once you have all of these materials, just spray your wine bottles with the colour of preference and decorate them with the mask on sticks and necklace beads.
